Stair Cladding in Dubai: Cost per Step, Materials and How SPC Stairs Are Fitted
What stair cladding costs in Dubai, how wood, marble and SPC compare, and how SPC treads and nosings are fitted over existing stairs.
By BestFloor team15 October 2026

Stair cladding in Dubai typically costs AED 350 to 900 per step for wood and AED 450 to 1,200 per step for marble or stone, according to one Dubai fit-out company. SPC cladding is a lighter, faster option that can usually be fitted over existing tiled or marble stairs. At BestFloor, when we floor your home, the stairs are included in the per m² SPC price rather than charged per step.
Stairs are often the first thing guests see in a villa, and also the part of the floor that wears fastest. Old marble or beige tile stairs can make a freshly floored villa look unfinished, which is why most owners do the stairs together with the floor.
What is stair cladding?
Stair cladding means covering existing steps with a new surface: a tread on the flat part, a riser on the vertical part and a nosing on the front edge. It changes the look of the staircase without rebuilding it.
Each step has three visible elements:
- Tread: the part you stand on.
- Riser: the vertical face between two treads.
- Nosing: the rounded or squared front edge of the tread, which takes the most wear.
Good cladding lines these up so every step looks identical, with tight joints at the walls and balustrade.

How much does stair cladding cost in Dubai?
Published Dubai prices are usually per step. One fit-out company lists wood cladding at AED 350 to 900 per step and marble or stone at AED 450 to 1,200 per step, and says stair cladding starts around AED 350 per step (Fitout and Renovation in Dubai).
To show how that adds up, here is a simple illustration for a straight staircase with 16 steps, using those published rates:
| Material | Rate per step (published) | 16 steps |
|---|---|---|
| Wood cladding | AED 350 to 900 | AED 5,600 to 14,400 |
| Marble or stone cladding | AED 450 to 1,200 | AED 7,200 to 19,200 |
Curved stairs, winders, landings and glass balustrades usually cost more because each piece is cut individually.
How BestFloor prices stairs: when we install SPC in your home, skirting and stairs are included in our per m² price. Our typical rate is about AED 80 to 110 per m² including 5% VAT, and a 4-bedroom villa of 200 to 220 m² typically costs AED 18,000 to 22,000 including the stairs, depending on the material. The final quote follows a site visit. See the SPC flooring cost guide for the full breakdown.
Wood vs marble vs SPC on stairs
Marble is the toughest and most formal, real wood is the warmest, and SPC gives a wood look that shrugs off water and needs almost no care.
Marble is beautiful but cold and hard, and polished marble can be slippery in socks. Real wood feels lovely but needs stable humidity: West Wood, for example, requires indoor relative humidity of 35% to 55% at all times for its engineered floors (West Wood). SPC is rigid, waterproof and stable, which suits a staircase near big windows or a busy family hall.
| SPC cladding | Wood cladding | Marble or stone | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Wood or stone print | Real wood | Real stone |
| Feel | Warm, solid | Warm | Cold, hard |
| Grip | Good with matt texture | Good if not lacquered glossy | Slippery when polished |
| Water | Waterproof | Sensitive | Fine, needs sealing |
| Over existing stairs | Usually yes | Usually yes | Heavy, more work |
| Published price | Included in our per m² price | AED 350 to 900 per step | AED 450 to 1,200 per step |
| Matches an SPC floor | Exactly | Close | No |
Can you clad over existing tiled or marble stairs?
Usually yes. If the existing steps are solid, the new treads and risers are fitted directly over them, so there is no breaking out. This is the same principle as laying SPC over floor tiles, which we cover in SPC flooring over tiles.
Before we start, we check:
- that no tiles or marble pieces are loose or hollow
- that the steps are roughly even in height
- the existing nosing shape and the space at the top and bottom of the flight
- how the new floor level meets the first and last step
Adding cladding raises each tread slightly. On most staircases this is spread evenly and nobody notices, but the first and last step need careful detailing, which is why a site visit matters.
How SPC stair cladding is fitted
Each step is measured, the tread and riser are cut to fit, and a matching nosing finishes the front edge. The pieces are fixed to the existing step rather than floating like the floor.
- Measure each step. Old stairs are rarely perfectly identical, so each piece is cut to its own step.
- Prepare the surface. Clean, check for loose pieces and repair where needed.
- Fit risers and treads. Usually working from the bottom up.
- Fit nosings. A matching profile on every front edge for a clean, safe finish.
- Seal the edges. Neat joints at walls and balustrades.
It usually happens as part of a full floor installation. For a real example, see our Tilal Al Ghaf guide, where we clad every flight of a three-storey Aura Gardens villa. A villa of around 200 m² with stairs typically takes us two to three days in total. The installation process guide shows what happens each day.

Design tips for Dubai villas
Match the treads to the floor, then decide whether the risers should match or contrast. Matching risers give a calm, continuous look. White risers make a staircase feel lighter and more modern, and they suit both light oak and dark walnut.
- Keep the same plank direction feel on the landing as on the floor.
- Use a matt finish for grip.
- Coordinate the skirting along the staircase wall with the rest of the home.
- If you plan a herringbone floor, use straight planks on the stairs. See herringbone vs chevron.
What to check in a stair cladding quote
Ask exactly what is included per step or per m², because stair quotes vary more than floor quotes. A low per-step figure can exclude nosings, risers, landings or the removal of old carpet.
- Are risers and nosings included, or only treads?
- Are landings priced as floor or as steps?
- Is the skirting along the staircase wall included?
- Is VAT included?
- Who repairs loose existing tiles, and at what cost?

FAQ
How much does stair cladding cost in Dubai?
One Dubai fit-out company lists wooden stair cladding at AED 350 to 900 per step and marble or stone cladding at AED 450 to 1,200 per step. At BestFloor, stairs are included in our per m² SPC price when we floor the rest of the home.
Can you clad stairs without removing the old tiles or marble?
Usually yes. SPC treads, risers and nosings are fixed over the existing steps after checking they are solid and reasonably even. Loose or cracked tiles must be repaired first.
Is SPC safe on stairs?
SPC stairs are finished with a nosing on the front edge of each tread, which protects the edge and gives a clear, solid step. Choose a matt, textured finish rather than a glossy one for better grip.
How long does it take to clad a staircase?
It depends on the number of steps and their shape. When we floor a whole villa of around 200 m² including the stairs, the full job typically takes two to three days.
Should the stairs match the floor?
In most villas, yes. Using the same SPC on the floor and the stairs creates one continuous look. Some owners choose white risers with oak treads for a lighter, more modern staircase.
Is wood or marble better for stairs in Dubai?
Marble is very durable but cold, hard and can be slippery when polished. Real wood is warm but more expensive and sensitive to humidity. SPC gives a wood look that is waterproof and stable.
BestFloor installs SPC flooring across the UAE, mainly in Dubai and also in Abu Dhabi. Follow our installs on Instagram at @bestfloor.ae.
